Q. Why does TOKYO SKYTREE have a three-legged structure?
　どうして東京スカイツリーは3本足なの？

A. TOKYO SKYTREE stands on three legs which is the minimum configuration to stabilize the pinnacle of the tower in the limited premises， reducing a visually oppressive feeling in the surrounding area and even minimizing the effects of wind. The three-legged base that can be seen in the lower part of the tower evokes a kanae， a tripod kettle used for ceremonies in ancient China， and also gives you a sense of stability. For this reason， the legs are called Kita-kanae (north tripod)， Higashi-kanae (east tripod)， and Nishi-kanae (west tripod)， respectively.
頂点が最も少ない数で安定するのが3本足であり、周辺地域への圧迫感や風の影響等を最小限にとどめられる。低層部で見える3本足の姿は、古代中国の礼儀に用いられた鼎（かなえ）を想起させ、見るものに安心感を与える。スカイツリーを支える３本足も、それぞれ「北鼎・東鼎・西鼎」と呼んでいる。
